Slow Burning Car – Defection (2017) December 28, 2017 Written by David Shouse, http;//hiphipdream.blogspot.com Slow Burning Car’s fourth studio release, Defection, is an invigorating musical ride from start to finish. They don’t simply bludgeon listeners into submission with a power chord guitar rock attack – there’s ample intelligence powering the band’s ten songs and they never confine themselves to a single musical approach. Instead, Defection crackles with the same imaginative energy enlivening the band’s previous three releases and, not unexpectedly, finds that the band continues to refine their approach thus focusing their muscle and concentration. Even the album’s comparatively muted tunes surge with raw creativity and carry listeners away from the first. Their musicianship is equally impossible to deny...

Music You Can Use A blog documenting the best in Americana music – blues, folk, bluegrass, country, and singer/songwriter fare included. Pop music is our thing too – we want to cover it all for you the reader.Thursday, December 28, 2017 Slow Burning Car – Defection (2017) Written by Larry Robertson, Slow Burning Car’s Defection is a smashing rock album, nothing more and nothing less. If you want some no frills hard-rock with a modern edge then you’ll get 10 tracks of firmly footed, rock solid, riff-centric groove that manages a few intricate stylistic juxtapositions throughout. Each song is individually sound and the entire album feels sonically cohesive as opposed to a simple collection of songs. The gusty, hard-rock...

Power Chord Passion Tuesday, December 26, 2017 Slow Burning Car – Defection (2017) Written by Mike Yoder, posted by blog admin Defection, Slow Burning Car’s fourth album, is a ten song collection aggressively putting this Los Angeles band over as one of the more cutting edge rock/metal acts working today. The band’s four musicians are obviously extraordinarily talent and play without any obvious ego trips, but they are clearly talented songwriters as well who thread influences into their work that further enhance their penchant for the personal and physical. These are songs capable of engaging listeners mentally and, naturally, physically. The muscular movement of the band’s music conforms to certain expectations we have about this style, but they prove...

Thursday, December 28, 2017Slow Burning Car – Defection (2017) Written by Raymond Burris, posted by blog admin Slow Burning Car offers up a 10-track, hard rockin’ groove fest on their 4th record Defection. This twin guitar, energetic group mixes grand melodies with a rough, unpolished edge that is sure to ignite a spirited little mosh-pit at one of the band’s many concerts. With airplay on 130 stations, this Los Angeles bred quartet has made quite an impact since their inception. The aesthetic Slow Burning Car settles on is as follows; not too heavy but certainly not too light. Songs toss and turn between punk-fed melodies with a lot of pop phrasings and white knuckle guitar heroics where riff and...

Signatures In Time Friday, December 22, 2017 Slow Burning Car – Defection (2017) Written By Frank McClure On album #4 Defection, Slow Burning Car prove that they are an awesome, original lost 90s artifact that would have been at home touring with Handsome, Failure and Self-Titled era Foo Fighters had they been around during that musical heyday. This record is 10 quality tracks with nary any filler and some well-composed forays into differing hard rock grooves. Slow Burning Car is game for artful experimentation and they don’t stay fenced in by genre or stylistic limitation. Full of thundering drums, power-chord heavy riffs and dirty distortion, “Alpha Duplicor” kicks the album off with a bang. Multi-tracked vocal harmonies maintain a...
