Can you talk to us more about your song “Soul Crimes”?

Soul Crimes was basically written about the inner struggle we all feel at some point between virtue/integrity and hubris/selfishness.

Did any event inspire you to write this song?

Not one in particular, but the title came from a comment an acquaintance of mine made regarding an episode between himself and his significant other. The phrase Soul Crimes left a strong impression on me.

Any plans to release a video for the track?

Possibly, that would depend on cementing a strong storyline then assembling a video team together to execute the vision.

How was the recording and writing process?

Very smooth. I had the “riff” established in all its structure about a year and a half ago. The lyrics were rather elusive until I heard my aquaintance’s story. I took anecdotes from that, combined them with some of my own beliefs, and slowly the entirety of the song came together. The recording was process was smooth as well since Adam (Idell our drummer) and I were well rehearsed to the demo that was recorded prior as a blueprint.

The album blends different styles – did you try to balance them altogether?

The album is a collection of very old songs I wrote 10-20 years ago and some very new songs I wrote 1-2 years ago. It’s basically a reflection of sounds, styles, and genres you would find in my record collection…as out the three previous Slow Burning Car albums.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

The same cliches everyone else claims… life experiences, personal observations…

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to hit the road in late winter/early spring of 2018, particularly the west coast states and then hopefully hit the east coast which we haven’t been back to in 8 years.

What else is happening next in Slow Burning Car’s world?

We are having our CD release show for this album Defection on Saturday, November 11th, 2017 at 8:30pm at The Grand Annex in our home town of San Pedro, California. Free show/ All ages. After that we have a few shows pending for the winter here in The Los Angrles area.
