This album starts out HARD and slows down and loses its momentum by the end. Slow Burning Car (an awesome name for a band, btw) starts out with some vaguely scientific rock, and even if you have no idea what it means you’re singing along to Alpha Duplicor. Soul Crimes is another upbeat fun track. Track 3, The Orb, is another weirdly scientific song about an orb, but you get really into it. Everything changed when he stepped into the orb. I was curious enough to listen to it a few times. Devil In The Room is also upbeat and alright. Sunday Derby is….different from any of the other songs, but in a good way. I enjoyed the break from the heavy instruments in exchange for more focus on the vocals and drum. Even if it really only has one section of lyrics that just repeats over and over again.

The end of the album is where things get weird. Track 7, Bedtime, reminds me of a lullaby, singing about it’s bedtime and time to brush your teeth. Not what I’d expect from the band in the first half of the album. It keeps up the slow, leisurely crawl to Chrysanthemum, which drones on and on and doesn’t quite end as soon as you’d like it to. Then comes Polar Warden, 8 and a half minutes of what’s essentially background music, interspersed with a creepy voice. Do not recommend, but if you want to freak out your listeners for Halloween, give it a go.

Overall, I loved the first half of this album, but wasn’t really into the second half. You might like it though, so if you’re into indie rock stuff, give Slow Burning Car a try!
