SBC – Public Cynic (Single Review) by Which Coast

Slow Burning Car is an American band from Los Angeles, California that specializes in a metal sound that incorporates elements of garage rock with a bit of punk sensibility. “Public Cynic” is a song from their upcoming album, Projection, which as of today has no release date set yet.

“Public Cynic” starts out with a speech and from the get-go it becomes obvious this song has some political and societal roots. “Public Cynic” is a gritty and heavy mid-tempo song that takes a deep dive into the counter-culture surrounding those who believe that shelter-in-place, stay at home and social distancing measures as a response to COVID-19 were inappropriate. Overall, the song is very reminiscent of heavier politically charged songs from the past. The instrumentation – especially the guitar work – is on point throughout the song, giving it the backbone it needs.

While we here at Which Coast do not necessarily endorse the messages of any of the artists we review, Slow Burning Car definitely gives a very coherent voice to the piece of our culture that has worked in opposition or carried on in frustration due to the various actions of the government throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as they discuss their titular public cynic.
